Resistance: Traditional Knowledge and Environmental Assessment among the Esketemc Canadian First Nation Community

2013

Bedard, B.

Description

Placed at the heart of a collection of documents dealing with the struggle of indigenous peoples to have their rights recognized in the context of development, this thesis examines the use of power, control and discourse on development from the perspective of a environmental assessment process involving Esketemc First Nation and Prosperity Gold and Copper Mine. An analysis of the environmental assessment process illustrates Esketemc First Nation's opposition and response to unequal power dynamics through strategies of power and resistance.
