Relation of Prenatal Methylmercury Exposure from Environmental Sources to Child IQ

2015

Jacobson, J.L., Muckle, G., Ayotte, P., Dewailly, É., & Jacobson, S.W.

Description

The authors seek to determine the extent to which exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) contributes to the adverse effects of methylmercury on child development and the extent to which exposure to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) could mask these effects in a sample of Inuit children from Nunavik. The study finds an association between prenatal mercury exposure and poorer performance on a school-age IQ assessment.
