Description

The authors developed, implemented, and evaluated culturally relevant dementia-specific training that aims to increase the knowledge, skills, and values of nurses to enable them to provide culturally safe dementia-related care to Elders in the Secwepemc Nation with memory loss. This community-based research project, guided by the perspectives of Elders from six Secwepemc communities, has resulted in the development of four teaching narratives that are used in conjunction with the San'yas Indigenous Cultural Competency Training Program in intended for health care providers. Learning outcomes are assessed by conducting knowledge pre-tests and post-tests.
