Embedding Indigenous Knowledges and Cultural Safety in Social Work Curricula

2019

Duthie, D.

Australian Social Work

Description

The author argues that social work students must be cognizant of their own ideologies, values and assumptions to overcome their colonialist awareness of Indigenous history and assumptions about why Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue to experience marginalization. Embedding Indigenous knowledges into social work curriculum and educating students about cultural safety are ways of overcoming this challenge.
