Risk Tradeoffs Associated with Traditional Food Advisories for Labrador Inuit

2019

Calder, R.S.D., Bromage, S., & Sunderland, E.M.

Description

Drawing from a dietary survey and analysis of mercury in hair, the authors conduct a screening level analysis of potential risks associated with higher methylmercury (MeHg) concentrations in traditional foods for Inuit from three Labrador communities. They compare the estimated magnitudes of projected MeHg exposure risks to those attributable to changes in nutrient intake following a dietary transition away from traditional foods to better understand the potential health implications of dietary consumption advisories for Indigenous populations.
