Description

This prospective longitudinal study examines how developmental exposure to methylmercury and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) is related to information processing in school-aged Inuit children from Nunavik. Findings suggest that prenatal exposure to methylmercury alters attentional mechanisms in the early processing of sensory information. Prenatal PCB exposure appears to affect information processing at later stages, with breastfeeding for an extended period potentially being a mitigating factor.
