This paper describes the barriers that are faced by Māori of New Zealand in receiving quality health services and discusses how nurses have the opportunity to address some of these barriers through the adoption of culturally appropriate care practices and incorporation of cultural safety, patient advocacy, and Māori -centered models of care.
