Creating culturally safe vocational rehabilitation services for Indigenous Australians: A brief review of the literature

2016

McLennan, V., Taylor, N., Rachow, A., South, G., & Chapman, K.

Description

This article provides an overview of the research on vocational rehabilitation services and counselling practices with Indigenous Australians, using a context sensitive, cultural safety and reflexivity approach to construct salient themes. The evidence suggests that vocational rehabilitation services providers lack the knowledge and skills needed to practice cultural safety and that a whole-of-profession approach is urgently needed to incorporate Indigenous health equity and cultural safety into the profession.
