In this study, seven First Nations women were interviewed about their beliefs related to pregnancy and participation in prenatal care. The study identified barriers to prenatal care, including cultural beliefs about pregnancy being a natural process that required no intervention, conflicting beliefs about pregnancy between the women and healthcare providers, and healthcare providers' unfriendly and authoritarian approaches.
