Language, culture, and early childhood: Indigenous children’s rights in a time of transformation

In this time of national reconciliation and nation-to-nation relationship building between the federal government and Indigenous peoples in Canada, Dr. Greenwood draws attention to national reports, recommendations and agreements, including the Royal Commission on Aboriginal Peoples, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, and the ruling of the Human Rights Tribunal in the context of Indigenous children’s rights. In addition to these, the article refers to Article 30 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) to support Indigenous language learning in early childhood programming for First Nations, Inuit and Métis children across Canada.
